Stock Market Crash Today: ₹85 Lakh Crore Wiped Out as Markets Face Longest Losing Streak Since 1996

The domestic stock market has witnessed a sharp decline, marking its fifth consecutive month of losses—the longest losing streak since 1996. After hitting a peak at the end of September, the market has been in a downtrend, causing investors to lose a staggering ₹85 lakh crore.

On the last trading day of February, the market continued its decline, extending Nifty’s historic five-month losing streak—something that has never happened since its formal inception in 1996. Since the downturn began in late September, investors have seen massive wealth erosion.

Looking at historical data, Nifty has experienced four or more consecutive months of decline only six times. The longest downtrend was from September 1994 to April 1995, when Nifty fell for eight straight months, dropping 31.4%.
