The Nifty 50 started today’s session 4,302.9 points below its record high of 26,277.35, reflecting weak global cues.
Overnight, Wall Street indices tumbled following the announcement of fresh tariffs by former U.S. President Donald Trump. The S&P 500 closed 1.8% lower, the Dow Jones dropped 650 points, and the Nasdaq Composite plunged 2.7%. Asian equities also saw early declines.
Trump confirmed that the 25% tariffs on Canada and Mexico would take effect on March 4, as negotiations for an exemption failed.
Meanwhile, OPEC+ has decided to move forward with reviving halted oil production despite repeated delays, facing pressure from Trump to reduce oil prices.
